Penis, although precious, is one of the most roughly handled parts of a man’s body. Only few men exercise proper penis care to ensure that their manhood stays healthy; the rest all just take things for granted. The problem is – when it comes to the penis, men think they know it all. But, that’s not true in most cases. Any man who is sexually active is vulnerable to developing a variety of penis problems. While most problems don’t pose a severe health risk, there are some that can have potentially serious effects on the functioning of penis. It is therefore essential for all men to keep an eye on warning signs of issues that can affect health of their manhood.
Here are some penis issues that should not be ignored:
Red bumps on the shaft
Rashes or blisters on the penis shaft can be warning sign of various conditions, including yeast infection, psoriasis, or balanitis. These infections develop due to physical contact with the infected person and can be painful if left untreated. Some blisters or lesions on the penis can also be a sign of penile cancer and hence, you must immediately make an appointment with doctor if you see any such rash on your penis. Another important thing to note here is – never scratch or itch the blisters as it can spread the infection further.
HPV (human papilloma virus) can cause genital warts in sexually active men. Usually the symptoms start developing within 6 weeks to 6 months after infection; but it may also take longer. Men mostly catch this infection by having unprotected sex with an infected person. So, the best way of preventing this altogether is to always use condoms. There are several ointments that can be applied directly to genital warts. You can also consider taking prescription medication or getting wart removed surgically.
Discharge from the penis
Whitish or yellow discharge from the penis can be a sign of infection in the urethra. Non-specific urethritis (NSU) leads to a clear discharge that worsens in the morning. Gonorrhoea can also lead to discharge and pain. If left untreated, Gonorrhoea can spread to testicles, causing pain, swelling and redness. Any discharge from the penis needs to be checked out by a doctor. Correct antibiotics given at the right time can help arrest the problem in its tracks.
Many men can notice the size of their penis reducing. This can be due to various conditions. Plaque formation inside the penis can cause bending, leading to reduction in the size. Increasing weight can also cause the penis to shrink due to a lack of blood flow in the erectile tissues. In some men, a persistent lack of erection can also decrease the size of manhood. While plaque formation can be treated by surgery or use of a penis extender, men can consider taking penis enlargement pills for increasing their penis size in case the problem is caused by a lack of blood flow.
